Massage therapy is one of the few healing techniques that we use instinctively on ourselves when we are sore or hurt even, at a young age. Massage addresses the soft tissues in the body that allow for movement – specifically muscles, ligaments, and tendons. The levels of pressure I use range from light and relaxing to deep and invigorating. Different parts of the body may need different pressure levels depending on the accumulated stress within the tissues and any injuries of or around the tissue.
Massage is generally performed with the client undressed and covered with sheets. In the 60-minute session, we can usually address the entire body, although if you have specific areas that need focused attention, then other areas of your body will not receive as much attention. This is a great option if you have not received much massage in your life, if you have chronic pain or problem areas that are your primary focus, or if you cannot physically handle more than sixty minutes because of a health condition, such as undergoing cancer treatment or during pregnancy. In the 90-minute massage, there is plenty of time to address any problem areas in addition to ensuring that you receive a full body massage. This is my preferred length of appointment, because even if your back is your main area of pain, there will be contributing issues in other areas of your body that we may not be able to fully deal with in a 60-minute massage. In the 90-minute session I am also more likely to include other modalities that complement massage therapy and help to relax and heal your body more deeply.
